As winter approaches, many in our community face the harsh realities of Nebraska’s cold season without adequate protection. For the fifth consecutive year, the YMCA of Lincoln is stepping up to provide warmth and hope through its annual Winter Coat Drive, benefiting People’s City Mission.
From October 1–21, all four Lincoln YMCA branches will serve as drop-off locations for new or gently used coats. Since the coat drive’s inception, nearly 11,000 coats have been collected and distributed – thanks to the incredible generosity of YMCA members and the broader Lincoln community.
To show appreciation for their support, individuals who donate a coat will receive a free one-week “Try the Y” pass, valid through December 31, 2025. In addition, current YMCA members who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a free Lincoln Y membership for 2026.
“As temperatures drop, the need for warm clothing becomes critical for those without stable housing,” shared Renee Yost, President & CEO of the YMCA of Lincoln. “Our annual coat drive is one way we can extend care and compassion to our neighbors in need. We’re grateful for the continued generosity of our community and proud to once again partner with People’s City Mission to help bring warmth to those who need it most.”
The drive will take place October 1-21, with a kick-off coat distribution at PCM’s Help Center on Friday, November 7.
