Questions about YMCA Summer Day Camp?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get about our Summer Day Camps. If you have questions that aren't on this list, please stop by your local branch or give us a call and we'll be happy to help you!

How do I register my child for Summer Day Camp?

All registrations for all Youth, Teen & Family Child Care Programs are available online. Paper registrations are no longer used. If you do not have access to a computer to complete your registration online, you can visit any Lincoln Y to use one of our computers.

How do I register if I qualify for a DHHS Child Care Subsidy?
What happens if the Program fills up before I am able to register?

If a program or course is full, we offer the option to add a participant to the waitlist. Being placed on the waitlist does not guarantee a spot in the program. Please ensure that your contact information is current at the time you are placed on a waitlist, as Program Directors will contact waitlisted individuals on a first come, first served basis if space in the program becomes available. If a spot becomes available, the Program Director will contact you and give you a deadline of when you need to respond by to accept or decline the spot.

The waiting list for our current Before & After School Program, Preschool Program and Summer Day Camp Programs, do not automatically transfer over to this next year. It is suggested that you come into the Y to register, as soon as possible when Member/Open Registration begins, depending on your membership status, so that you have the best chance of getting into the program or being placed higher up on the new waitlist, if a new waitlist is necessary.

Please understand that the maximum capacity for our program is set based on the space we are able to use and child care licensing standards set by the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

What happens if I need to cancel after May 1?

We staff for the Summer Day Camp program based on the number of children enrolled each week. We also purchase supplies and snacks and rent vans based on the number of children enrolled each week. In the past, by the time there is an opening in a week it is often difficult to fill that spot with someone off the waiting list due to the fact that they have already made other arrangements at that point. Our cancellation policy will allow us to serve the number of children we had planned to serve while meeting those financial obligations. If you should need to withdraw from a week of summer day camp after May 1, you will be responsible for paying 50% of the weekly fee but the $20 deposit will be applied to that, so you will be charged the remaining amount.

Will I still need to submit a copy of my child’s immunization records if I've turned them into the YMCA previously?

Nebraska State Department of Health and Human Services requires that every child’s immunization history be on file. We will no longer require that these records be updated and/or submitted at the time of registration; however they will be required in order for your child to attend the program. Because we have switched to a new system, we will need all families submit a hard copy of their child’s up-to-date immunization records to the program staff by the first day of the program and failure to do so may result in forfeiting your child’s spot in the program.

Children must be immunized for the following: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Haemophilus influenza type B and Invasive pneumococcal disease. If your child has had Varicella (Chicken Pox) you must provide written documentation that states the month and year of infection.

Does my child need to submit immunization records if they've attended YMCA Programs in the past?

If your child has attended other child care programs at the YMCA we would ask that you bring in new copies this year so that we can start over with our new system in place. Because we have switched to a new system, we will need all families submit a hard copy of their child’s up-to-date immunization records to the program staff by the first day of the program and failure to do so may result in forfeiting your child’s spot in the program.
