At the YMCA of Lincoln, people make everything possible. We are so grateful for the wonderful staff we have that not only make the Y a great place to be, but serve our community every day. Keep reading to meet one of our amazing team members:

Geoff Weller, Executive Director of the Fallbrook YMCA

How long have you been working at the YMCA of Lincoln?

In May I will start my 15th year at the YMCA of Lincoln!

What other roles have you had at the Y?

I started straight out of college as a Program Director in our Youth Sports Branch. After 10 years in Youth Sports I was given the opportunity to take the Executive Director role at the Northeast Y. Four and a half years later, I assumed my current role as the Executive Director of the Fallbrook Y.

What makes the YMCA of Lincoln different than other places you've worked?

Well...since I started with the YMCA of Lincoln right out of college, I don't know anything different!

What has been your proudest career moment and why?

It is so neat to see the the micro communities that develop within the larger YMCA of Lincoln community. For example, individual classes or groups of people in the workout are around the same time have been known to develop tight relations and, many times, end up spending time together outside of the Y.

What is one of your favorite memories from working at the Y?

As a Youth Sports Program Director, I had the chance to run the soccer tournament portion of the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games. It was educational to be part of a national event of that caliber. Better yet, it was great to see athletes competing purely for the love of the sport and the opportunity to compete.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Don't get caught up in comparing yourself to others.

What's something most people don't know about you?

I played the trumpet from 5th grade through my freshmen year of high school.

We want to extend our sincerest thanks and congratulations to Geoff for helping to make the YMCA of Lincoln a great place for 15 years! We can't wait to see how he will continue to make a difference in our community in the future.
